The accumulator is installed in the refrigeration circuit on the low-pressure side after the evaporator.

It stores the mixture of liquid and vapour refrigerant supplied by the evaporator, separating the liquid from the gaseous part of the refrigerant. On the output side, the compressor is supplied with a defined refrigerant quality in the vapour state.

The dry agent binds any moisture in the circuit. The collection area for refrigerant oil at the bottom of the accumulator additionally enriches the refrigerant with a defined quantity of oil, which also serves to lubricate the compressor.
